Nakusp Motorcycle Travel Meeting
If you can make me feel like a stay at home bum or someone that needs to find a job so that I can go see the world then it’s safe to say I’m in a place I want to be. That place was Horizons Unlimited West Candada meetup in Nakusp British Colombia. Horizons was the first site I came across when I start investigating motorcycle travel and one that I’ve gone back to many times since for information and inspiration.
Going Higher in Lake Louise
Finishing 3 days of climbing in the backcountry didn’t change plans much as we simply moved down the Lake Louise campground to do the same thing. The main upside to this was the access to showers and restocking on groceries. Aside from that we were driving to the mountains instead of hiking to the nearest ones.
Back In Lake Louise
With Jana and my 3 day 2,200 mile sprint complete it was time to try to get back into boot mode. Not so easy after over 40 hours of riding. It was a 5 mile uphill climb to the site we used as a base camp for three nights along an easy path. Just what I needed to get loosened up.
Ride, Ride, Detour
There it is, Mile 0 of the Alaska Highway. Wow, I’m really getting up there!
I came to it early in the day in Dawson City, British Columbia. I admit, I was ignorant as to why the Alaska Highwya starts in Canada 1,500 miles from Alaska (and why it’s in miles). Now I know, it was built by the US Corp of Engineers during WWII to bring supplies and weapons to Alaska to fight the Japanesse.
Letting Karma Find Its Course
“Is anyone here sober” came the query as I shuffled back and forth toeing rocks and empty bottles out of my way looking for a spot for my tent. The only response was laughter, they hadn’t been sober for days. I already knew I wasn’t about to put up my tent, I was just acting busy waiting for the crowd to thin to find out who my neighbors would be. In other words I had nothing better going on, “Yup, I am. Stone cold sober.”
Jasper National Park
Leaving Parker Ridge I was shortly at the Athatbasca Glacier and in Jasper National Park on the Icefields Parkway. There are big snow machines that let you go out on the glacier which I skipped. The $49 fee certainly had a lot to do with that. Besides the day was starting to pass and I had to get a camp.
We’re All Canadian For A Day
July 1st Canada’s birthday in case you didn’t know. Not at all far away from the one I’m used to celebrating and I got to do it at Lake Louis – Banff National Park’s biggest attraction with plenty of others. See I don’t always complain when people are around they’re nice to see a few days of the year.
