Big Bend National Park
Located in southwest Texas Big Bend National Park extends along the Rio Grande river for 250 miles of the Texas/Mexico border and covers 1,250 square miles. It doesn’t have a “keystone” attraction that attracts visitors to it or even to congregate those that are there. It does offer mountains, desert, wildlife, and hiking with as much space and solitude as you want and possibly more. Read more
Getting Back In Travel Mode
I’ve got few days of the trip under my belt now. The nuances of living on the road are coming to me through both past experience and necessity. My only scare so far occurred when I left my backpack at a gas station. Luckily my Stonehenge II stop was only 5 minutes away so I was able to go back to get it, and all it’s contents (including my wallet). That was less than two hours into the trip. I didn’t wait long to make it and adventurous one did I? Read more
Win A Travel Book #1
To finish my first week of blogging off I’m going to hold a contest to win a travel book! I will hold these contests on the 10th and 24th every month.
While cleaning out my house to get ready for this trip one of the first areas I tackled was my big bookcase. Two shelves of it were dedicated to travel books. Guidebooks I’d used, guidebooks I hoped to use, outdoor/nature books, travel stories, novels, you get the idea.

- No, that doesn’t worry me.
- Yes, I’m sure and ok maybe a little crazy
Choosing My Own Path
Why did I quit my job to go travel? To let you see what’s out there of course. Ok, it’s not really about you, it’s about me. That doesn’t mean I don’t love you though!
Normally, I am one of my least favorite subjects. Now I have a whole post to fill about me.
Laid back, quiet, and easy going sums me up pretty well. It’s an easy enough path to take and I walked down it with hardly a bend or uphill for many years. Ultimately I realized that wasn’t enough anymore and that it was time for a drastic change. Here’s how it came to be.

My Itinerary for 2010
I’ve been living in Texas since 2007 so naturally that’s my departing point. The first destination is Big Bend National Park on the western border of Texas. Two weeks ago I drove to San Diego and back to leave stuff at my parents house. It was an 18 hour trip, 8 hours of which was in Texas despite living in the middle of the state. In other words, I don’t intend to get to Big Bend in one day. Read more
